Toronto commuters face subway chaos Sunday as transit bosses shut down major chunks of the system. Workers will hammer away at tracks and upgrade stations while passengers scramble for alternative routes. The entire stretch between St. Andrew and St. Clair West stations gets the axe for the day. Five busy downtown stops including Dupont, Museum, Queen's Park, St. Patrick and Osgoode will stay locked up tight. Shuttle buses will crawl through traffic trying to pick up the slack. The Bloor-Danforth line takes another hit with delayed morning service between St. George and Chester stations. Subway cars will stay parked until 11 a.m. while crews replace massive beams on the Prince Edward Viaduct. More shuttle buses will race around the city trying to move frustrated riders. Transit officials promise frequent service but commuters know better than to trust those promises. Weekend warriors better plan extra travel time or risk missing their plans. Coldplay fans get special treatment as the TTC pumps up service for the Rogers Stadium concerts. Friday and Saturday night showgoers can catch boosted Line 1 trains to reach the venue. Smart concertgoers will hop off at Downsview Park, Sheppard West or Wilson stations for the shortest walk. Parking spaces wait at Sheppard West, Pioneer Village, Highway 407 and Finch West stations. Music lovers can ditch their cars and let the subway do the heavy lifting.
