Tune-Yards return with Better Dreaming and new Limelight

Indie rock duo Tune-Yards plans to release a brand new album called Better Dreaming this May. Fans last heard from them back in 2021 when they put out Sketchy. The band just shared Limelight, a groovy anthem that kicks off their return to music. They created the track after dancing with their family to George Clinton songs, and their three-year-old kid even sings on the recording.

Merrill Garbus almost left the song off the album because it seemed simplistic during a time of global conflicts affecting many children. She felt uncertain about discussing freedom when she recalled Fannie Lou Hamer saying nobody becomes free until everybody reaches freedom. Despite these doubts, people kept responding positively to the track, especially her child. Jayla Smith created a colorful music video that fans can watch right away.

The upcoming album contains eleven tracks, including Heartbreak, Swarm, Never Look Back, and Sanctuary. Music lovers can experience the complete collection when it drops next month. Tune-Yards clearly poured their hearts into crafting these songs, building on their distinctive musical style. The album title, Better Dreaming, suggests themes of hope and imagination throughout the project.

The band will tour across the Northeast starting May 7th in Philadelphia at Johnny Brenda's. They plan stops in Kingston, Portland, Brattleboro, and Northampton before wrapping up May 15th at New York City's 101 Club. These smaller venues will give audiences an intimate chance to hear the fresh material performed live. Tickets for these shows might sell quickly since they picked relatively small performance spaces for their comeback tour.
