The exam saw a massive jump in test takers compared to last year. We're talking 141,996 candidates signing up in 2024, which is a whopping 31,430 more than in 2023 - that's a 28.4% spike! Males dominated the numbers, making up 56.4% of the total candidates and accounting for 16,695 of the new participants.

Out of those who took the test, 140,888 showed up to battle it out. The performance breakdown looks pretty promising: 54,338 candidates scored all three principal passes, 37,935 nabbed two principal passes, and 29,233 secured one principal pass. Only 1,632 candidates didn't cut and will need to repeat senior six.

UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo highlighted some encouraging stats. A stellar 98.8% of candidates qualified for the UACE certificate, and 65.5% potentially meet university admission requirements. If two principal-level passes remain the admission benchmark, about 92,273 students could be heading to university. When considering one principal and two subsidiary passes, that number jumps to a whopping 86.2% of candidates qualifying for tertiary institutions.

The UPOLET program saw 35,652 candidates, representing 25.1% of the total test-takers. Males continued to lead here, too, with 22,500 participants compared to 13,152 females. These numbers reflect a consistent trend of male overrepresentation in advanced education testing.
