Uganda Communications Commission held a breakfast meeting to thank supporters of the recent Uganda Film Festival. The 12th festival edition attracted more than 30,000 people during its May 26 to June 6 run. Officials praised sponsors and partners who helped make the event successful. Director Julianne Mweheire said the festival required teamwork from many groups. Executive Director Nyombi Thembo announced the strong attendance numbers at the gathering. The festival featured training programs, workshops, film showings and award ceremonies across Uganda. Participants learned new skills and showcased their creative work during the two-week event. Veteran filmmaker Mariam Ndagire received recognition for her contributions to the industry. She said the festival helps new filmmakers start their careers. Ndagire encouraged young people to join the competition without fear of established professionals. Winners receive money and travel opportunities to attend international film festivals. The program offers year-round support beyond just recognition and awards. Filmmakers can network with industry professionals and gain valuable experience. The festival has grown significantly since its early years when both filmmakers and organizers faced many challenges. Participants now benefit from a complete support system that helps develop their careers. Major companies sponsored the festival activities and events. MultiChoice Uganda, MTN Uganda, Nation Media Group and Citibank provided funding. Century Cinemax, EMT Cinemas, NuMax Cinemas and Galaxy FM also supported the festival. Officials said partnerships made the strong participation numbers possible. The Uganda Film Festival remains the country's main platform for celebrating creative talent and developing the entertainment industry.
