[QUOTE="Munyaradzi Mafaro, post: 51874, member: 636"] Uganda Christian University students achieved significant recognition at the Uganda Film Festival through their creative achievements in cinema. Brian Kabogozza earned the Best Student Film award for Dinner for Three while Douglas Byaruhanga received the Best Original Soundtrack honor for Fatal. The Uganda Communications Commission organizes this annual celebration of filmmaking talent across production, acting, directing and sound categories. Both winners studied Journalism and Mass Communication at the university, with Byaruhanga completing his degree program. Their success demonstrates the emerging strength of Uganda's next generation of creative professionals. Kabogozza began his filmmaking journey during Senior Three at Namilyango College despite administrative opposition to his artistic pursuits. He created simple short films before advancing to more serious directorial work at Uganda Christian University. His previous productions My Degree, My Background and My First Year garnered nominations at the Ikon Awards and Malawi International Film Festival. The Student World Impact Film Festival in the United States recognized My Background with an award. Byaruhanga transitioned from minor acting roles in Senior Four to discovering his passion for music and film production. Geoffrey Ssenoga, a broadcaster instructor at UCU's School of Journalism, emphasized the university's commitment to developing student capabilities through modern facilities and technology. The institution offers online distance learning programs for postgraduate courses such as Master's in Arts of Journalism and Strategic Communications. UCU's eLearning platform enables students to attend virtual classes, access materials and submit assignments while instructors deliver real-time teaching. These technological advances help prepare graduates for competitive employment markets. Festival judges praised the young filmmakers for demonstrating the potential of passionate creative pursuit.
