General Muhoozi Kainerugaba said yesterday that Uganda and Russia are continuing to build a strong friendship. The Uganda military chief talked with Russian officials about how both countries want peace around the world. He met them at the Special Forces base, where they discussed ways to strengthen Ugandan forces through teamwork between their armies. "Our friendship with Russia helps both our nations and supports our goals for security and better lives," General Kainerugaba told the visitors. Many important military leaders joined him, including heads of Special Forces, Marines, and the Air Force. Mr. Sergey Gusev, deputy director of JSC Rosoboronexport, led the Russian group along with several defense experts from Moscow. Mr. Gusev thanked the Ugandan military for their warm welcome during the visit and praised Uganda for taking charge of keeping peace in East Africa. The Russian official said his country feels good about its growing partnership with Uganda's armed forces. He believes both sides gain many benefits from working together on defense matters. Both sides agreed to keep improving their teamwork on military issues. They want to share knowledge, build better defense systems, and tackle security problems together. This meeting happened in Entebbe after several earlier talks between General Kainerugaba and Russian military chiefs both inside Uganda and in Russia during the past months.
