The government has told all news workers they must go to a required training at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi. Minister Balaam Barugahara shared this news at a meeting with media bosses at the Uganda Communications Commission office in Bugolobi, Kampala. He was passing on a message from Chief Of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba. At first news workers could not attend this meeting. The minister said President Museveni gave this order through the Chief of Defence forces. Mr Balaam said the training must finish before June 30. He stressed that media managers and editors need to act against bad content and make sure news is right and true. UCC Executive Director George William Nyombi Thembo told the media bosses that besides giving permits and making rules, the commission must keep the nation safe. A Top TV news person named Ibrahim Miracle got shot in the eye during nominations for the Kawempe North special election on Wednesday. At a press talk on Thursday, Defence and Military spokesperson Acting Maj Gen Felix Kulayigye said bad things about security staff who hurt news workers. He said not all security people act badly. He promised those who did wrong would face punishment. General Muhoozi first told people about the meeting on X. Many media leaders came from different groups. These groups were the National Broadcasters Association, Rural Broadcasters Association of Uganda, and Uganda Online Media Publishers. Some big names at the meeting were Kin Kariisa, who leads the Board of Trustees National Broadcasters Association and runs Next Media, Salt Media boss Pastor Aloysius Bugingo, Super FM leader Peter Semmatimba, and Galaxy FM/TV leader Innocent Nahabwe. Many more people came to this meeting.
