His method uses guided RNA with Cas9 protein to target bad genes in cancer cells. This builds on Nobel Prize-winning CRISPR technology but attacks only cancer cells without harming healthy ones.

The same office approved his universal foot and mouth disease vaccine patent on January 7. Dr Magoola has filed over 100 patents for treatments against major diseases like HIV and malaria. He stands among new African scientists creating home-grown answers to health problems instead of depending on outside help.
