Uganda Named Most Promising Tourism Destination at Indian Travel Expo. Uganda won top honors at India's Outbound Travel Market Expo in Bombay last week. The nation earned the "Most Promising New Destination" award, presented to High Commissioner Joyce Kakuramatsi Kikafunda. The Indo-Asia Tourism Expo ran from January 30 to February 1, 2025, drawing major tourism buyers and sellers. Nine Ugandan travel companies, including Busunga Tours, Moments Beyond Borders, and the Uganda Safari Company, showcased the country's attractions at the event. Uganda's pavilion emerged as the most visited and highest-rated display among tourism market participants. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said this success highlights Uganda's unique offerings - from gorilla tracking to birdwatching with 1,200 species, plus cultural heritage sites and adventure tourism. The ministry plans to build on this momentum. In the coming months, the Uganda High Commission in New Delhi will host leading Indian tour operators on a familiarization trip. Visitors will experience Uganda's attractions firsthand before recommending them to clients. The commission aims to attract Indian influencers and Bollywood personalities with large social media followings. Indian film producer Ramji has agreed to create a movie featuring Uganda's iconic tourist sites and landscapes. Uganda Tourism Board will select local tour operators to partner with Indian firms. The country's expo participation involved multiple organizations, including Uganda Airlines, the Ministry of Tourism, and the Uganda Wildlife Authority. The ministry stated that this recognition could help Uganda reach its economic goal of growing to $500 billion within 15 years. Regular participation in such events might establish Uganda as a premier African destination for Indian travelers.
