Ugandan MP Maranga Eyes NRM Vice Chair Seat

Micheal Mawanda Maranga wants to run for NRM National Vice Chairperson of the Western Region. He already leads as Director of Mobilization for the Patriotic League of Uganda. He also serves as the MP for Igara County East. He hopes to take over the seat from current holder Chris Baryomunsi, who is also ICT Minister.

Maranga asked people to vote for him to help create a peaceful future for Uganda. He promised to solve problems by working together with others. The PLU Chairman, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, already gave permission for PLU members to run in NRM elections. Though PLU stays a civic group, it shares many NRM values.

Maranga sees his run as a way to shape how PLU fits into Uganda's politics. He offers himself as a new voice for Western Region leaders. He also called recent claims against PLU members false and politically driven. He firmly stated these accused members did nothing wrong.

His challenge against Baryomunsi might change power balance in NRM's Western Region, where President Museveni has strong backing. As General Kainerugaba gains more political power, Maranga's run may signal an effort to bring PLU supporters into top NRM spots. Many will watch how his campaign changes both NRM and Western politics before Uganda votes in 2026.
