Ugandans Cheer Kabaka Birthday Run and Jubilee

Ugandans in Minneapolis celebrated the Kabaka of Buganda's 70th birthday last Sunday with their very first Kabaka Birthday Run. The Minnesota event happened at the same time as thousands gathered in Kampala, Uganda, for the main celebration honoring Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. These runs help raise money for healthcare and education back home. Members from different cultural groups came together, showing unity among Ugandan communities living abroad.

Twegaite International members joined the festivities, creating a rare moment of friendship between regional groups. Joshua Muwema from Twegaite said the event proved Ugandans can unite across tribes when living overseas. He felt that seeing people from the Busoga and Buganda regions supporting each other made a strong statement about community. The Minneapolis run brought together various organizations beyond just cultural boundaries.

Twegaite International plans to mark 25 years of service with a Silver Jubilee Convention from May 23-26 at Hyatt Regency in downtown Minneapolis. The three-day event will feature panel talks about developing the Busoga region, a Twin Cities Fun Run, cultural performances, and entertainment. Global leaders and Ugandans from North America, Europe, and Uganda will attend. These overseas Ugandan groups will show how cultural pride can work alongside cross-cultural teamwork for their homeland's benefit.
