Uganda's top cancer doctor just delivered a shocking warning about tea drinking habits that could save thousands of lives. Dr. Jackson Orem from the Uganda Cancer Institute says people need to stop gulping down boiling hot tea right away. The doctor explains that drinks over 65 degrees burn the throat tube and cause deadly cancer. Most families think drinking scalding tea shows toughness but this habit kills more people than anyone realizes. Throat cancer has become Uganda's fifth biggest cancer killer and the second most deadly after cervical cancer. The dangerous cancer attacks the food pipe connecting the mouth to the stomach without any early warning signs. Patients only feel pain when tumors have already spread throughout their bodies. Dr. Orem says most people arrive at his clinic when treatment becomes nearly impossible. The disease causes trouble swallowing food and dramatic weight loss that destroys families. Rural kitchens create another major threat because wood smoke damages the throat over many years. Smoking cigarettes makes throat cancer risks jump even higher when combined with heavy drinking. Poor eating habits also weaken the body's natural defenses against cancer cells. Dr. Orem wants people to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables instead of just bread and meat. The cancer expert believes simple changes like cooling drinks and improving kitchen air flow can prevent most cases. He says teaching children proper teeth brushing and healthy eating habits will protect future generations from this preventable disease.
