UNICEF and the University of Gambia signed a deal on June 19th at NaNA Conference Hall. The agreement creates a Child Rights Centre at the university. Two days of meetings happened before the signing ceremony. Officials from both groups worked together on the details. Academic leaders and UNICEF staff attended the event. Ms. Nafisa Binte Shafique from UNICEF talked about the partnership. She said the centre will help students learn about protecting children. The university will train people to speak up for kids who need help. Teachers and students can become leaders on this important topic. Research and education will happen at the new centre. Professor Kayode Adekeye from the university thanked UNICEF for working with them. He promised the school will make the centre work well. Students can learn how to help children and teach others about their rights. The professor wants young people to talk with community and religious leaders. The university plans to follow through on all promises made. The United Nations told Gambia to teach child rights at all school levels. The centre helps the country follow these rules. Gambia recently started a Social Work degree program with UNICEF help. This new centre continues that partnership between the groups. UNICEF has worked with Gambia for sixty years. The Child Rights Centre will connect research with real action. Officials hope it becomes a place where policy makers learn about protecting children better.
