She will simultaneously hold positions as Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator. Guterres praised outgoing Swedish representative Ingeborg Ulrika Ulfsdotter Richardson for her dedication to UN operations.
Boni Kouassi brings 22 years of expertise spanning development programs, security operations, and relief efforts. She directed the UN Development Programme office in Niger from 2022 and temporarily assumed Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator responsibilities between 2023 and 2024. Her previous assignments featured leadership positions in Burundi from 2019 to 2022 and coordination roles in Djibouti and New York.
The physician earned her medical doctorate from Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan and completed graduate public health studies at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She speaks English, French, and Baule fluently.
