LYANTONDE, Uganda - The Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF) medical teams have carried out more than 100 surgeries in the Lyantonde and Lwengo districts. The surgeries were part of activities marking the 44th Tarehe Sita celebrations.

Lt. Col. Dr Godfrey Ngobya led the UPDF medical team in the two districts. He said they treated hernias, hydroceles, goiters, and enlarged prostates.

The mobile clinics saw over 1,500 patients. Dr Ngobya noted that malaria, respiratory infections, and urinary tract infections (UTIs) were common issues.

Member of Parliament for Bukoto South, Hon. Dr Kagabo Twaha, praised the UPDF's work. He said their medical outreach adds to existing healthcare efforts in the region.

"The UPDF treats conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and skin problems. They also do surgeries," Dr. Kagabo said.

He dismissed rumors that the UPDF was vaccinating and harming people at the medical camps.

"These claims are totally false," he stated. "The UPDF's job is to protect and serve the country. Here, they are saving lives with medical care."

The free medical services have brought much-needed help to the community. They provide essential healthcare to those who need it most.
