Zimbabwe Launches $1.5 Million Fund for War Veterans. Zimbabwe's government has allocated $1.5 million to provide interest-free loans for war veterans, with three provinces receiving $150,000 each. The Presidential War Veterans Fund aims to help former liberation fighters start businesses. At Friday's launch in Harare, Special Presidential Investment Advisor Dr. Paul Tungwarara announced the first disbursement to the Zimbabwe Political Prisoners, Detainees, and Restrictees Association (ZIPPEDRA). "The President has committed $150,000 to ZIPPEDRA for Harare Province," Tungwarara said. "Members can access these funds to start projects without interest charges." The program requires beneficiaries to repay loans, ensuring others can receive support. "Regular reviews will increase funding based on repayment performance," Tungwarara added. Mashonaland East and Masvingo provinces have also received funding. Mashonaland East secured $100,000 for veterans and their families, and Masvingo received $166,000. Zanu PF Deputy National Political Commissar Webster Shamu praised President Mnangagwa's support for veterans. Concord for Young Women in Business Global pledged financial literacy training for loan recipients. The organization's president, Apphia Nyasha Musavengana, highlighted an additional $100,000 donation for women veterans. "This enables women to fund projects without collateral requirements," she said. War veterans maintain significant roles in Zimbabwe's development and leadership. They supported the ruling party during the 2023 elections and continue to defend liberation values. The fund recognizes contributions from veterans, ex-political prisoners, detainees, and war collaborators.
