US Boosts Bounty On Maduro A Whopping 25 Million

The United States has raised the reward for information leading to the arrest of Venezuela's President Nicolás Maduro. The new amount is $25 million, which is about 3.2 billion Kenyan shillings. The announcement was made on the same day that Maduro was sworn in for a third six-year term.

Many people in the international community and the Venezuelan opposition are against Maduro's inauguration. The US is also offering rewards for information that could lead to the arrest of other Venezuelan officials. They will pay up to 2.2 billion Kenyan shillings for Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino.

Maduro took the oath of office in front of parliament on Friday. He promised that his third term would be a "period of peace." But many people, including leaders from Brazil and Colombia, say that Maduro lost the disputed election in July.

A day before the inauguration, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado was briefly arrested. She had spoken at a protest rally. The Information Minister Freddy Nanez said that reports of her arrest were just a distraction.

In his inauguration speech, Maduro promised peace, prosperity, equality, and a new democracy. He said he would keep his word. But the opposition and many other countries, like the United States, do not accept the election results. They see opposition candidate Edmundo González as the true president-elect.

González left Venezuela in September and is currently in Spain. He recently traveled to other countries in the Americas to get international support. The Maduro government wants to arrest him. They are offering a $100,000 reward for information that could lead to his capture.

Machado was supposed to run in the election, but she was not allowed. González took her place on the ballot. She went into hiding after the disputed election. The last time she was seen in public was in August until she appeared at the rally on Thursday.
