US Embassy Condemns Arrest of Zimbabwe Journalist

The US Embassy spoke up about a reporter's arrest in Zimbabwe. They said the arrest of Blessed Mhlanga was wrong. The Embassy wants the country to let reporters do their jobs.

The police took Mhlanga on Monday. They claim he shared the news that made people want to fight or hurt the property. The law they used is Section 164 of the Criminal Law Act Chapter 9:23.

A judge said no to letting Mhlanga out for bail on Friday. The judge thinks Mhlanga might talk to people who saw things or mess up what the police are looking into.

The US Embassy made clear that all news writers should have rights from the law. These rights include bail and free speech.

The trouble started when Mhlanga talked to Blessed Geza. Geza is part of the Zanu PF party and fought in past wars. He does not like what Mnangagwa wants to do by 2030.

Police want to find Geza because they say he tried to upset people, talked bad about the President, and stole things.

Geza asked President Emmerson Mnangagwa to stop being a leader right away. He said Mnangagwa runs the country badly.

The Zanu PF party has two groups with different ideas. One group likes Mnangagwa and wants him to stay until 2030, with no voting in 2028. The other group may like Vice President Constantino Chiwenga more. They want to follow the rules about how long someone can be President.
