Long-time news writer Herbert Mutugwi has passed away at 58. The sad news came yesterday from Ray Mungoshi, who runs the Zimbabwe Mass Media Trust. Herbert fell down suddenly at his work desk inside the New Ziana building in Harare, where he had been doing his job lately. Herbert started as a beginner reporter with the Chronicle newspaper back in 1987. He worked hard and moved up to Assistant News Editor by 1992. Later, he became the News Editor at Manica Post in 1997. Then, Herbert joined Community Newspapers Group as the main writer for the Nehanda Guardian paper in Bindura 2010. After that, he ran the Masvingo Star before the company sent him to Harare. He helped strengthen the New Ziana news group as a Senior Editor. The leaders and workers at Zimbabwe Mass Media Trust are very sad about Herbert's death. They sent warm words to his family members and friends during this tough time. Ray Mungoshi said Herbert mattered a lot to their team. He played a big part in bringing New Ziana back to life. Everyone will miss how Herbert knew his job well and taught young reporters. The news world lost someone who really cared about telling stories right. His friends will soon tell everyone about funeral plans. Many people across Zimbabwe remember Herbert as someone who helped make the news better throughout the country. He spent over thirty years writing stories that mattered to regular people. Young writers learned much from watching how he worked each day. The papers where Herbert worked became better because he cared deeply about sharing honest news with readers everywhere. Herbert leaves behind many friends in newsrooms across Zimbabwe who learned from him. His careful way of checking facts and clear writing style helped many readers understand complex issues. The hole left by his sudden death reminds everyone how much he gave to Zimbabwe through decades of honest reporting. His name joins other respected writers who helped build the country through truthful news stories.
