War Heroes Remember Namibia's First President Sam Nujoma.

Many brave soldiers from Oshikoto tell wonderful stories about Sam Nujoma, the first person who led Namibia as president. They remember him as someone special who fought hard to make their country free.

Max Nekongo, who used to lead the Oshikoto area, says everyone in Namibia was lucky to have Nujoma as their leader. "He loved Namibia with all his heart. He helped free our country and made it better after we won our freedom," Nekongo says. He feels sad about Nujoma's death but thanks God that Nujoma lived until he was 95 years old.

Asino Michael, who fought in the war and was part of Nujoma's family, calls him a hero and a father to many people. Michael joined the fight to free Namibia because Nujoma inspired him. Another soldier, Ruben Nikanor, says Nujoma made everyone feel welcome and worked very hard at everything he did.

Nikanor tells us that Nujoma really wanted young people to learn useful jobs and skills. He hoped the young people would keep doing the good things he started. "We must keep working the way Nujoma taught us. Then we can tell our children that we live in peace because of what Nujoma did for our country," says Nikanor.
