Voice of the North backs new leaders for a fairer north

Voice of the North supports Catherine Mzumala and Vitumbiko Mumba as strong leaders for northern Malawi. VON thinks these leaders can help the region grow and develop better than others. The group shared this news during a press event in Mzuzu, where they talked about why they picked these people.

Davie Botha leads VON's Board and believes the country needs new leadership ideas to bring everyone together. He pointed out how the current system gives more resources to some areas but leaves the North behind. Roads, schools, and basic services often reach the northern parts last or not at all.

Botha said Mzumala and Mumba really see these problems clearly and know what to do about them. The group wants either federalism or taking turns at leadership between regions. They think these changes would stop tribes and regions from fighting each other for power and money.

VON wants leaders who care about the whole country rather than just their hometown. Botha explained that many different groups live in northern Malawi, not just the Tumbuka people, as many think. He stressed that every community deserves fair chances no matter which tribe it belongs to.

The group sent a clear message to politicians Frank Mwenifumbo, Khumbo Kachali, and Enock Chihana. VON warned them not to team up with political parties that play favorites based on tribe or region. They worry such partnerships hurt the push for fair leadership across Malawi.

Botha urged northern citizens to vote smartly in the September 16 elections. He reminded them that voting gave them the power to pick leaders who truly cared about northern progress. VON keeps talking with many groups to push for big changes in how Malawi runs its government.

The organization wants a system where every part of the country gets fair treatment. Their main goal is to build a country where success reaches all Malawians, not just people from certain areas or backgrounds. They believe the upcoming election offers a chance to move toward that goal.
