Vice President Constantino Chiwenga was inducted into the Roman Catholic guild at Harare's Church of the Immaculate Conception. The ceremony, which took place at the House of Nazareth, marked a significant step in his religious journey.

His wife, Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga, attended as he joined the guild alongside his four sons: Dr Kudzai, Tawanda, Kudakwashe, and Takudzwa Chiwenga.

"I was baptized after my birth on July 2, 1956, and I have been a Catholic ever since," Chiwenga told The Herald. "When I went to the liberation war in 1973, I never stopped my Catholicism. I went to war with my rosary and came back with it."

The Vice President emphasized the church's role in strengthening families and promoting national unity. He described his faith as a driving force behind his public service, noting his early arrival times at the office reflect his commitment to both duties.

Chiwenga acknowledged his busy schedule limited his church attendance over the years. "During the war and after, when my work did not permit, people did not see me often at church. I attended whenever time allowed," he said.

The family maintains active religious participation through pilgrimages. Chiwenga expressed his long-held desire to join the guild system, which helps members strengthen their faith through prayer and education.

Father Mark Chikuni of St Gerrard Parish led the induction mass, welcoming the Vice President and his family into the guild community.
