VP heads overseas for extra medical care

Ghana's Vice President fell sick last Friday after finishing her work day. Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang needed urgent care at the University of Ghana Medical Center on March 28, 2025. Doctors checked her condition carefully throughout Saturday. They decided she should travel outside Ghana for special treatment.

The news came from a March 30 statement by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who serves as the Presidential Spokesperson and Minister of State handling Government Communications. Defense Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah shared this update through his Facebook page. The official message expressed hopes for her quick recovery.

Medical staff at UGMC did their best to help the Vice President. They determined that her health issues required expertise available only at international facilities. The sudden illness surprised many since she had been actively working just hours before. The government will keep citizens updated as she receives care abroad.

The entire administration wishes Professor Opoku-Agyemang well during her treatment. Her health remains a top priority for officials across different departments. The brief statement confirmed her departure but gave no specific details about her condition or destination. The Vice President has dedicatedly served Ghana since taking office.
