Mary Waithera from Maragua Parliament just jumped ship from former Deputy President Gachagua to President William Ruto's team. She made her big announcement when Ruto visited her area. Before this change, she always stuck by Gachagua's side. Deputy President Kindiki had asked locals to let her work with Ruto for better development.
Kindiki mentioned that they already partner with several area leaders like Governor Kang'ata, Sabina Chege, Betty Maina, Peter Kihungi, and Edwin Mugo. He said they came especially to bring Waithera into their group. Waithera confirmed her switch because voters from her district asked her to change sides. She quoted from the Bible, saying, "Where you go, I'll go. Your God becomes my God, and your president becomes my president."
Waithera shared that Kindiki has been her close friend since last November. She added comments about their friendship in her native language. Then, she pledged herself to President Ruto, saying he could count on her support through 2027. She asked local citizens to back him because only two years had passed since he won the election.
Many feel surprised by her change because she strongly defended Gachagua during removal attempts last year. Ruto joked about her, calling her hardworking and questioning how she had managed among troublemakers before. He wants peace with everyone and hopes to work with all leaders. Ruto caused heated discussions when he claimed he mentored MP Ndindi Nyoro, who seems distant from him lately.

During his visit, Ruto launched a 312 million shilling irrigation project and promised another 200 million to finish it. He committed to paving the rough 13-kilometer road connecting to the water project.
