Moses Wetang'ula asked Bungoma residents to sign up for ID cards right away. He wants chiefs to lead this push since they know everyone around them. Bungoma is the third biggest county with lots of people, which means they need to step up their voter sign-ups. Leaders can only succeed when locals back them through voter registration. "I'm starting a contest between our locations based on your numbers. By next year, any chief who registers many people for IDs and voting will win. I'm putting a prize of one million shillings up for grabs," Wetang'ula said. The county speaker and assembly members will watch over this money. Wetang'ula believes Bungoma should deliver at least one million registered voters. He stressed that local progress depends on people registering to vote. His comments came after President Ruto made IDs free and stopped the vetting process for North Eastern areas. Wetang'ula pushed officials to run strong campaigns, making sure all eligible citizens received this vital document. During a meeting at his Bungoma home with political figures and officials, he explained that the President's order works everywhere across Kenya. "The President's rule about removing ID checks isn't just for North Eastern parts but applies all over the country," he added. Wetang'ula praised how this change eliminated old colonial rules that made getting IDs difficult. "Many young Kenyans avoided asking for IDs because of pointless requirements. I've met Kenyans over 60 who still lack IDs because they couldn't meet the demands," he explained. The government plans to spread ID offices out further to speed up the process. "We met with the President who agreed to spread more ID services closer to people, except for printing, making the system faster," he mentioned. Wetang'ula criticized Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya for fighting against Ruto's decision to end ID vetting in North Eastern regions. Natembeya had asked Ruto to think again about this choice. The President stood firm on his decision, saying it brings the country together and creates fairness.
