question What is the meaning of a clout chaser?

recommended
A clout chaser is a person who strategically associates themselves with the success of a popular person or a current contemporary trend to gain mileage in terms of fame and attention.

Therefore, this type of behavior is often resembled as "riding the wave" of a given situation.

In the long run, a clout chaser isn't a loyal individual because they follow where the wind is blowing hence their personality trait can lean towards being extremely calculated to borderline having characteristics of antisocial personality disorder.

So it's always in the best interest of the person on the come up to notice and identify clout chasers who want to ride their wave and use them to further their brand without doing too much work or paying for...

So would you say a clout chaser is a narcissist type of person?

To some extent, yes, a clout chaser can qualify as being a narcissist person.

The entertainment business is very rampant with clout chasers because there is a need to stay relevant in the show business.

Notice how singers and songwriters are quick to copy someone's sound without crediting them as the source of inspiration.

Okay, I get what you are saying but wouldn't you say clout chasers are more limited to Hip Hop culture.

No that's not true. Clout chasers are pretty much everywhere. From Hollywood to Hip Hop, you name it.

Clout chasers are individuals who are calculated and extremely manipulative. They are always watching for new current trends and people on the come up to absorb their energy.

There is a saying which says, "The show business is like high school with money", and that quite frankly explains the phenomenon of clout chasing tactics.

When people talk about someone being a clout chaser what do they mean by that?

Clout means influence in whatever activity a person is involved in. For example, a record label executive will have more clout in the music business but not so much in the political arena.

So for a record label executive to have more clout in other areas they need to network with the powers that be in whatever area they are trying to diversify into.

In addition, A-list actors and musicians will obviously have more clout than D-list actors and singers. Therefore, if a D-list actor continues to get recognition and recommendation from A-list actors they will gain more clout.

However, it shouldn't come as a surprise that in some instances clout chasers can also be people who have a huge established following.

But because they want to draw further attention to themselves they usually end up doing the most as far as linking up with the person that the crowd is excited about, and is currently trending in the media or social network platforms.

N.B., the word clout means influence in any particular field or industry.

Clout chasers are people who use other people to get ahead in life, and honestly, I can’t stand someone who manipulates people for personal gain.

It's similar to leeching off someone just like how moochers move.

Do y'all think clout chasing has similarities with capitalism?

Hmm, that's kinda true, but it's not always the case.

However, clout chasers usually capitalize on cloning someone's style and make money with it -- just like how certain Hip Hop artists copy the next rapper's sound and make it seem as if it's all original.

Capitalism is an economic system of allocating resources in ways that returns the highest possible profit within a free market.

So what makes you think that clout chasers are capitalists because many clout chasers are literary mindless internet trolls trying to be famous on the internet?

I think he is suggesting that clout chasers utilize their most valuable resource (i.e. time) to further their narcissistic interests geared towards either staying relevant to the masses or building a brand by hopping on popular trends through controversial ways.

This could be an explanation why some big artists in the music industry have a habit of replicating unknown artists music and sometimes even sampling songs without clearance hoping not to get caught.

It just comes down to who's got the money for a better entertainment lawyer and that's something which those unknown artists, in particular, don't have enough money to hire an entertainment attorney so they can't fight it.

P.S. When it comes to LAW I guess it's always about how much you can prove and how long your paper is.

It's because those type of people have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Yes, companies copy each other all the time, and when you factor in 'political correctness' that increases the possibility of companies or artists, in general, having a limited speech in terms of expression which of course leads to similar ways of inauthentic "fake" approach.

The modern world has gotten to a place where you have to sugar coat everything and if you give your honest opinion it’s can be misinterpreted as "shaming tactics" or "outright hating."
