It's genre-specific and a matter of subjective taste.

In most cases, the kick drum isn't meant to prominently occupy frequencies below 20 Hz to roughly about 50 Hz because this will result in a phenomenon known as auditory masking i.e. your kick drum will be competing with your bass guitar or synth bass.

But that doesn't mean you have to filter out everything below 50 Hz on every single kick drum with low-cut or high-pass filters.

There aren't absolute techniques or tips for mixing kick and bass sounds in a song but there are guidelines such as having your kick drum in front of your bass or vice versa.
