Sean Williams battled through helmet blows to score 137 runs during Zimbabwe's first innings against South Africa at Bulawayo. The veteran batsman faced 164 deliveries for his sixth Test century despite taking a nasty hit from teenage bowler Kwena Maphaka. Zimbabwe finished their reply at 251 runs after South Africa had declared at 418 for nine. Williams was eventually stumped by wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne off spinner Keshav Maharaj. His innings held together Zimbabwe's batting effort on a difficult second day. South Africa leads the match by 216 runs and holds nine second-innings wickets. The visitors reached 49 for one when play ended with Tony de Zorzi unbeaten on 22 and Wiaan Mulder not out on 25. Matthew Breetzke fell early for one run when Wessly Madhevere caught him off Tanaka Chivanga's bowling. South Africa looks strong to build a commanding total for Zimbabwe to chase. The tourists need just one more good batting session to control this first Test completely. Two batsmen suffered helmet injuries during Zimbabwe's innings from the pace bowling attack. Opener Brian Bennett was ruled out with concussion after being struck and replaced by Prince Masvaure under concussion protocols. Masvaure managed just seven runs before becoming one of four victims for all-rounder Mulder. Debutant Codi Yusuf claimed three wickets for 42 runs. Captain Maharaj also took three wickets for 70 runs to wrap up Zimbabwe's batting.
