Zimbabwe opener Brian Bennett cannot continue playing against South Africa after suffering a head injury. The batsman took a blow to his helmet from a cricket ball during the second day of the Test match. Prince Masvaure will take his place for the rest of the game at Bulawayo. Team doctors diagnosed Bennett with mild concussion after the accident. Cricket rules require injured players to leave the field for safety reasons. Bennett was batting well when the injury happened during the sixth over of play. Fast bowler Kwena Maphaka delivered a short ball that struck Bennett on the helmet. The opener had scored 19 runs from 25 balls at that moment. He tried to pull the ball but it hit the top edge of his bat first. Medical staff checked Bennett immediately after the impact occurred. The injured player continued batting for a few more deliveries despite feeling shaken. He faced three more balls from bowler Codi Yusuf before stopping play. Bennett walked off the field during the eighth over of the innings. He had looked like the most confident batsman for Zimbabwe before the injury. His recent form had been excellent with strong performances against England. Masvaure brings experience to replace the injured opener at age 36. He last played Test cricket against Ireland during July 2024. The replacement batsman scored a half-century during that match in Belfast. Masvaure averaged over 40 runs during the recent Logan Cup competition. His best score was 50 not out from five innings played.
