During a burial ceremony, President Mnangagwa asked Zimbabweans if their work builds up the nation. He wants everyone to help advance Zimbabwe, just like national heroes did. The president challenged women in security and other sectors to learn from the late Air Vice Marshal Mandeya. The president said hard work and patriotism can help anyone reach their goals. He urged people to think about what role they play for tomorrow's Zimbabwe. Mnangagwa explained earlier that heroes fought for independence against the Rhodesian regime and its friends. Winnie Cabby Mandeya died April 27 at age 64 in Harare. She joined the liberation struggle in 1975, starting at camps in Mozambique. She trained in Tanzania and worked under several national heroes in the medical corps. After independence, she served in various roles before joining the Air Force in 1984. Mandeya rose from Flight Lieutenant to Air Vice Marshal before retiring in 2022. Throughout her career, she held numerous military appointments. She received several medals for her service, such as the Independence Medal and Liberation Medal. Many officials attended the burial, which took place at the National Shrine where she rests with other national heroes.
