A woman cursed President Adama Barrow while riding public transport and got dragged to court for her foul mouth. Witness Salimata Yaffa told Brusubi Magistrates Court that Mariama Naba Darbo lost her temper during a traffic jam last month. The presidential convoy was heading to Sanyang for a foundation stone ceremony when vehicles got stuck on the Tanji-Turntable highway. Darbo asked why traffic had stopped and erupted with profanity when she learned about the president passing through. Other passengers immediately scolded her for the disrespectful outburst. Yaffa warned Darbo that democratic freedom does not mean people can abuse their speech rights against the head of state. Fellow travelers also criticized her behavior and demanded she stop the inappropriate comments. The angry woman refused to back down from her verbal attack on the country leader. Traffic police at Five Star checkpoint in Brufut heard about the incident when Yaffa reported what happened. Officer Amie questioned Darbo directly about her alleged remarks during the roadside confrontation. Darbo repeated the same insults right in front of the traffic officer without any shame. Both women got escorted to Brufut Police Station for further questioning about the matter. Police officers told Darbo that insulting the president equals insulting the entire nation during their investigation. She claimed the president was not older than her while maintaining her hostile attitude toward authority. The case returns to court on July 10 for witness cross-examination.
