Xolani Khumalo Case Withdrawn as Probe Deepens

Former TV host Xolani Khumalo received a break when officials withdrew murder charges against him temporarily. The National Prosecuting Authority wants more time to investigate the July 2023 incident. Khumalo faced accusations of attacking suspected drug dealer Robert Varrie during filming in Katlehong, east of Johannesburg. Varrie died after the confrontation. The case sparked major public debate across the country.

Khumalo previously hosted the anti-drug program, Sizok'thola, on the Moja Love channel. He became famous for exposing drug operations before his arrest led to dismissal from the network. Many social media users expressed surprise about the case withdrawal. Some claimed new evidence caused prosecutors to pause the proceedings. Khumalo told supporters outside Palm Ridge court he believes justice is moving forward.

Attorney Zola Majavu leads Khumalo's defense team, arguing that he performed community service through his work. The former presenter maintains his innocence throughout multiple court appearances. Varrie's relatives continue seeking closure, demanding others involved face investigation as well. They expressed sadness about their loss to Sunday World. Prosecutors may restart the case later based on new findings.
