Yadah Chairman Under Fire for ZIFA Constitution Role

Everson Chatambudza is the chairman of Yadah Stars Football Club and a lawyer in Harare. Prophet Walter Magaya is the president of the same club. Magaya wants to run for president of ZIFA, Zimbabwe's soccer association.

But there is a problem. The rules say that candidates for ZIFA president must have passed at least five O Level exams. Magaya did not give ZIFA proof that he passed these exams, so he was not allowed to run for president.

Magaya is unhappy about this rule. He went to the High Court to try to stop the ZIFA elections. He wants the court to wait until his appeal is heard. Magaya also complained to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland.

Chatambudza's law firm is representing Magaya in court, but some people think this is wrong. They say it is a "conflict of interest."

Why? Chatambudza helped write the ZIFA rules that Magaya is now challenging. He was part of a group that made changes to the rules last year, including adding the rule about needing five O Levels to run for president.

A legal expert says Chatambudza should not be involved in the case. The expert thinks it looks bad for a lawyer to fight against the rules that he helped create. It might seem like the lawyer is using inside information to help his client.

But Chatambudza disagrees. He says he is just doing his job as a lawyer. He thinks Magaya has the right to challenge the rules in court. Chatambudza says being part of the group that changed the rules does not matter. He believes he can still represent Magaya fairly.

The High Court will hear the case soon. The judge will decide if the ZIFA elections should be stopped until Magaya's appeal is over. This case is important for the future of soccer in Zimbabwe. It will also test the rules about conflicts of interest for lawyers.
