Construction started Tuesday on the first part of Yuzhny satellite city in St. Petersburg. The project begins with ten buildings ranging from five to ten stories tall. Officials say builders received permits for about 72,200 square meters of new housing. These homes should be ready early in 2027. The State Construction Supervision Authority approved the plans.
The first stage will include four separate phases. When finished, the development will create 240,000 square meters of housing across two blocks. The first block features four residential buildings, a kindergarten, medical office, police station, fire station, and heating facility. The second block will contain eight apartment buildings, a school, and another kindergarten. Developers plan a tram service to connect the area with central St. Petersburg.
The new neighborhood sits next to the ITMO Highpark science and education center, which is currently under construction. City officials consider the project strategically important for investment. When sales begin, housing prices will start around 160,000 to 170,000 rubles per square meter. The entire development occupies land in the Pushkinsky District south of the city center.
