Zanu PF faces declining support across Mashonaland West province as party officials conduct cell verification exercises. The ruling party struggles with poor attendance during meetings meant to select new central committee members. Party leaders blame weak communication and bad planning for the low turnout numbers. Provincial chairperson Mary Mliswa-Chikoka expressed frustration about members staying away from important gatherings. The verification process moves slowly through three key districts. Makonde, Hurungwe and Sanyati districts host the current selection exercises for party positions. Sanyati seeks someone to replace Blessed Geza after party officials expelled him for opposing President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Mines deputy minister Polite Kambamura competes against businessman Jimaya Muduvuri and Kudakwashe Nduya for the open spot. Hurungwe district sees a contest between Reuben Marumahoko and Ability Gandawa. They want to replace former deputy minister Terrence Mukupe after his imprisonment. Several candidates fight for the Makonde district position left vacant when Kindness Paradza joined the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission. Phineas Makumbe, Tommy Mwanza, Simba Ziyambi and Locadia Gwati seek the role. Chinhoyi will not hold elections since Mike Chimombe remains imprisoned awaiting trial. Mliswa-Chikoka warned Chegutu officials about creating division among party members. Some areas recorded zero attendance during recent meetings. The province once served as a Zanu PF stronghold under former President Robert Mugabe before his 2017 removal. Ward 4 attracted 550 people for the highest attendance figure. Bumi Hills recorded no attendees at their gathering.
