People wondered about the word chigananda since VP Chiwenga said it at a funeral back in January. Many thought it meant someone who became rich through shady ways. Zanu PF leader Machacha cleared things up during a meeting at Masvingo Polytechnic last Sunday. He shocked everyone by saying it means something completely different. The word actually describes honest business people who earn money through hard work. Machacha told the crowd it meant the same as bourgeoisie in English. He explained that these are people with money, land, or machines who make more things than they need for themselves. They sell extra goods for profit instead of for personal use. The audience clapped when they heard this new meaning. This explanation changed how many viewed the term, which caused lots of talk around Zimbabwe. The party official connected this idea to how Zanu PF changed over time. He mentioned the big agreement between Zanu and Zapu from 1987, marked when they stopped pushing communist ideas. The party decided to help regular citizens build wealth instead of limiting who could become rich. This shift allowed more black Zimbabweans to start businesses and grow financially successful. Machacha proudly listed famous rich Zimbabweans as proof their plan worked well. He named Strive Masiyiwa and Kuda Tagwirei as examples of successful people who benefited from these rules. He added Wicknell Chivayo to his list of business stars created through party policies. He claimed these wealthy citizens succeeded because the party removed barriers that stopped people from making money.
