[QUOTE="Nehanda, post: 27107, member: 2262"] Zimbabweans gathered in Chinhoyi to celebrate their awesome natural landscapes and wildlife during Africa Environment Day. The celebrations happened a bit late compared to the official date on the calendar. Local chiefs met with staff from the Environmental Management Agency and Forestry Commission at Chinhoyi University. Everyone came together because they wanted to protect the beautiful outdoors for future generations. Chief Zvimba attended the event alongside Mr. Josphat Jaji, who represents the Mashonaland West government office. Mr. Jaji filled in for Minister Marian Chombo, who couldn't make it to the celebration. During the festivities, they planted a Quinine Tree as a symbol of new life. Visitors strolled between different displays showing all the cool projects happening to save rivers, forests, and wild places. Investing in the Environment was the main message that brought everyone together for the celebration. The event also celebrated the amazing work of Wangari Maathai, who dedicated her life to nature. Maathai won the Nobel Prize because she stood up for trees when others wanted to cut them down. Her fight to protect natural spaces still inspires people all across Africa to care for their land.
