Zimbabwe's Path Since Independence Shows Real Progress. Many people claim life was better when Zimbabwe was called Rhodesia and run by white rulers. These claims miss the truth of what happened then and what has changed since 1980. Under white rule, most people in Rhodesia faced harsh treatment. Black families could not own good farmland. They had poor schools and hospitals. They could not vote or have a say in their country's future. The white leaders owned most of the best land. They kept black workers poor and blocked them from getting better jobs. They used force to stop anyone who spoke up against them. Everything changed when Zimbabwe became free in 1980. The new country opened schools for all children, which helped Zimbabwe achieve one of Africa's highest reading rates. The government built health centers near small towns and villages. Black families no longer had to travel far for medical care, and mothers found it easier to get help when having babies. Zimbabwe gave farmland to many black families who never owned land before. These new farmers earned more money and felt proud to work their soil. The country faced hard times from outside pressure. Rich nations put limits on trade after Zimbabwe took land from white farmers. Money problems hurt many people. But Zimbabwe stayed strong. The country built new roads and power stations. It made friends with other nations like China and Russia. These partners helped create jobs in mining and building. Life improved for most people after 1980. Everyone can vote, children can go to school, and families can see doctors when sick. The old Rhodesia only helped a few white people get rich. Zimbabwe tries to make life better for everyone. Some work remains to fix old problems. But Zimbabwe proves it can overcome big challenges. The country keeps growing stronger as free people build their future together. Free people living with dignity beats the old days of white control. Zimbabwe's story shows what happens when a nation chooses freedom over fear.
