Zimbabwe Starts Final Push for Global Wetlands Meeting. Zimbabwe began planning for a major world meeting about wetlands yesterday. President Mnangagwa marked the start of the countdown to the 15th Meeting of Parties on Wetlands. The event will happen in Victoria Falls this July. Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri read the President's speech at Kasibo in Hwange District. The President said 170 days remain before this important meeting starts. "We must show this countdown each day on all news outlets. This will help everyone remember the meeting and what we want to do for wetlands," the President said through his minister. Zimbabwe's role as host shows its strong position in wetland care. The country has seven special wetland areas, which matter greatly for nature and the earth's health. The President talked about how this meeting will help make friends with other countries. "This meeting will build better links between nations. It will keep wetlands as a main concern for all our futures," he said. The Ramsar Convention started in 1971, helps save wetlands and use them well. More than 170 countries signed this agreement. They all agree that wetlands help both people and animals live. The President thanked Dr. Musonda Mumba from the Ramsar office. She helped Zimbabwe win the right to hold this big meeting. "Zimbabwe will work hard to make this meeting good," the President promised. He asked all countries to come to the meeting. "We want everyone to talk about wetland problems. We can work together to take care of these places," he said. Victoria Falls is a perfect place for this meeting. It is one of the world's seven wonders and one of Zimbabwe's seven special wetland sites. Zimbabwe has laws to save its wetlands. The Environmental Management Act keeps these areas safe. But cities are growing bigger, farms are spreading out, and weather changes make this work hard. "Wetlands face big problems," the President said. "Cities grow fast. Farms take more land. Trees come down. Bad weather hurts these places. These problems harm both the wetlands and the people who need them." Victoria Falls is both a world treasure and an important wetland. Leaders chose it as a meeting place to show how nature and visitors can work together. Many people will come to this meeting. They will talk about how to save wetlands when the weather keeps changing. Zimbabwe wants to show it cares about the earth's health and plans to help make things better.
