Zimbabwe stands at the center of Southern Africa, actively reshaping the global economy instead of just joining it. The country serves as an entry point to markets across SADC, COMESA, and AfCFTA. Government officials use the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair to allow international visitors to see what the country can offer, helping Zimbabwe connect with business partners worldwide. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce teamed up with ZITF yesterday to host diplomats for breakfast before the upcoming 65th fair. Deputy Minister Raj Modi spoke for Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu at this meeting. He told diplomats they can help unlock Zimbabwe's economic potential. The fair carries the theme "Industrialisation: Crafting an Integrated Economic Landscape." "We actively shape the global economy, not just participate in it. Our location at the heart of Southern Africa makes us a natural gateway to regional markets," said Deputy Minister Modi. He pointed out this gives access to over 1.3 billion people and around $3.4 trillion in combined GDP. These numbers create huge opportunities for foreign businesses looking to expand their reach. The African Continental Free Trade Area forms a key part of the African Union's Agenda 2063 plan, which aims to create a prosperous, united continent. Modi stressed how important diplomats are for attracting international exhibitors and investors. Their influence helps position Zimbabwe as a top destination for trade and investment. "Your role goes beyond appreciated—it's essential. We depend on you to promote this platform for investment and trade connections. Your advocacy helps bring international businesses here," Modi explained. He highlighted Zimbabwe's commitment to political stability and peace as major factors that make investing there attractive. ZIDA continues to implement reforms that create better conditions for investment. The Deputy Minister described ZITF as more than just an exhibition—it works as a dynamic system for trade and networking. It brings key players together to form partnerships that benefit everyone involved. These connections drive technology advancement and skills development across industries. ZITF Company Chairman Busisa Moyo compared economic teamwork to a balanced meal. He said retooling industries and finding financing remain top concerns for businesses. "Just as food gives our bodies strength, working together makes our economy stronger. Industry leaders focus on mechanization to increase scale and efficiency," Moyo explained. He also mentioned the need to secure funding for operations and infrastructure projects. ZITF is one of Africa's leading trade showcases and continues to promote industrial growth. It helps create essential business connections that support economic development. The 2025 event will focus on building a sustainable industrial system. "We aim to reduce our dependence on exporting raw materials by encouraging value addition and manufacturing," said Moyo. He emphasized how diplomats play a crucial role in economic growth. They advocate for national interests, promote trade agreements, and provide valuable market insights to potential partners. Moyo called for unity in the effort to create deeper connections between countries. "Together, we can display the potential of our diverse industries and build a vibrant platform for collaboration and growth. Let us join forces to explore new partnership opportunities," he said. The fair runs from April 21 to 26, 2025. The event expects to draw many international exhibitors, investors, and business groups. It will showcase Zimbabwe's industrial potential with special attention to value addition and manufacturing. Zimbabwe positions itself strategically as a hub for trade in Southern Africa. Its geographic location and participation in regional trade agreements give it advantages. ZITF provides a critical platform to display the country's industrial capabilities and build international partnerships. With its focus on political stability and industrialization, Zimbabwe aims to play a significant role in the global economy. At the same time, it works to address local economic challenges through these initiatives. Involvement from diplomatic representatives and international stakeholders remains crucial for achieving these goals.
