Zimbabwe Steps Up Air Safety With New Measures

The Zimbabwe government plans to join a global flight safety agreement. Information Minister Dr. Jenfan Muswere shared this news after Tuesday's Cabinet meeting. This agreement stops countries from shooting weapons at passenger planes flying overhead. By joining this deal, Zimbabwe shows everyone it cares about keeping air travelers safe.

The agreement comes from Article 3BIS of the Chicago Convention. When countries sign this paper, they promise never to harm civilian aircraft during flight checks. This protects passengers, crew members, and the planes themselves from danger. The agreement also creates rules for how planes should be approached when they need inspection.

Zimbabwe wants better safety standards that match what other modern countries already use. When people know their planes will never face weapons, they feel more confident about flying. This builds trust between travelers and airlines operating in Zimbabwe's skies. The agreement helps create smooth operations for all flights coming through the country.

Cabinet members voted yes because they believed these international rules would help everyone. Dr. Muswere explained that joining means Zimbabwe's laws will match those required by the Chicago Convention. Many successful nations around the world already follow these same guidelines. This decision makes Zimbabwe's airspace safer for both local flights and planes visiting from other countries.
