A major push to bring science education closer to rural communities is underway in Zimbabwe. Bindura University of Science Education plans to reach out to the Makoni and Gutu districts through its yearly education meeting.

Dr. Lazarus Dokora leads this effort as the meeting's co-chair. He wants to tailor science learning to each area's needs. His team aims to help these communities grow through education.

School leaders from three regions met to plan training sessions. These will start in January 2025. They formed groups in each district to guide science and technical education projects.

"We want our nation to become stronger," said Dr. Dokora. He explained how the university supports Zimbabwe's goal of reaching upper middle-income status. This matches the United Nations' plans for world growth.

Dr. Dokora shared that students will learn through a mix of classroom and hands-on training. "We keep checking how well our programs work as we reach more areas," he added.

Local leaders welcomed the university's plans. Mr. Gideon Chiukira, who runs an education group in Makoni, promised to help. The head of Makoni's rural council, Mr. Chidembo Chidembo, said his schools would join the university's friendship program.
