Zimbabwean pupils will miss NSC exams after repatriation

The school grind got thrown into chaos, and thousands of kids are caught in a curriculum maze after leaving South Africa with parents and guardians due to xenophobic pressure. More than 11,000 children made the move, while Grade 12 students may miss their National Senior Certificate exams.

Edward Muchatuta from the ZEP Coordinating Committee wants Zimbabwe and South Africa to work out a way for students to keep studying under the South African syllabus. He says Grade 10 and 11 learners spent over 11 years with CAPS and South African languages, making a quick switch unrealistic.

The tally cited by Muchatuta reaches 62,816 self-repatriations, with 11,090 children made up of 5,373 boys and 5,717 girls. Obert Masaraure wants a grading bridge for returning students, while e-learning support could use ZEP-backed teachers. A parent fears relocation could wreck a Grade 12 learner’s preparation.
