The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority has seen big jumps in new tax registrations, thanks to its digital changes. Since December 2023, sign-ups have grown 116 percent after it introduced the Tax and Revenue Management System (TaRMS). This new system replaced an older e-service platform that kept breaking down. Regina Chinamasa, who runs Zimra as Commissioner-General, shared how TaRMS never goes offline—it runs with perfect reliability. She pointed out that this technology helps businesses and regular citizens deal with tax collectors much more easily than before. Their team stays focused on using these tech tools to serve people better. Tax returns happen completely online these days - nobody needs to fill out paper forms anymore. For anyone who lacks internet access, Zimra set up special kiosks across the country. The system went active last October to help taxpayers follow rules more easily and make trade smoother through better tax management. Zimra created TaRMS because people struggled with filing returns, data problems, and complicated payment steps. The system handles everything from registration to processing returns, accepting payments, and managing unpaid taxes. Ms. Chinamasa explained that through these improvements, they want everyone to have simple tax experiences. The new approach checks information during sign-up to prevent mistakes and duplicate entries. Data updates happen instantly, keeping everything accurate and clear. Users can manage accounts, change details, and check their balance anytime - day or night - which means fewer trips to office locations. Another helpful change automates the process of tax clearance certificates with no waiting period. The system has already registered 637 tax agents who help others handle their taxes professionally. Built-in payment systems ensure money goes exactly where it should without problems, building trust between taxpayers and collectors. Zimra built strong cybersecurity into TaRMS to protect private information. The system proved it could handle busy periods when many people submit returns at once. Ms. Chinamasa described this as more than just better software - it represents a complete shift toward modern tax administration that makes things easier for all Zimbabweans.
