Zoe Bakoko Bakoru received nomination from the National Resistance Movement to run for parliament. The former minister will compete for the Ayivu County seat in Arua District during 2026 elections. Dr. Tanga Odoi nominated her as the ruling party's electoral commission chairman. She previously served as Woman MP for Arua District from 1996 to 2001. Later she represented Ayivu County from 2001 to 2006. Many older government officials are seeking parliamentary positions for the upcoming vote. Second Deputy Prime Minister Moses Ali leads the group at age 86. Finance Minister Matia Kasaija follows at 81 years old. Former Minister Ephraim Kamuntu joins the race at 79. Other candidates range from 69 to 78 years old. Bakoko criticized the current leadership for wasting government money. She said constituency funds arrive but leaders use them poorly. Roads remain damaged despite funding for repairs. Villages lack electricity and water connections. She questioned what current representatives accomplish for residents. The candidate spent 16 years living outside Uganda. She fled to the United States after exposing corruption at the National Social Security Fund. Bakoko claimed millions of dollars disappeared each month from the fund. She accused powerful government figures of stealing the money. Officials in West Nile consider her an influential political leader.
