ZRP Ditches Race and Leaves Us Wondering What the Heck

Zimbabwe police just postponed their big yearly race, which was set to happen on March 29. The Commissioner-General's 21-kilometer run at Mkoba Teachers' College in Gweru must wait for a new date. Police leaders plan to tell everyone the new schedule soon. Commissioner Paul Ngwarai Nyathi says runners can still sign up online even though the actual race day has changed.

Police gave no clear reason for suddenly changing plans about the running event. Many people think it might be connected to possible street protests. War veteran Blessed Geza called for demonstrations on March 31, just two days after the planned race. Athletes having trouble with the online signup can call Hyper Nation Crew staff members Givemore or Shingi at their phone numbers. Anyone needing more details can reach out to Superintendent Chiumukoko directly.

Former lawmaker Fadzayi Mahere asked tough questions about this last-minute change on the social media platform X. She pressed the police to explain their true reasons for canceling the half-marathon. Mahere pointed out how strange it seemed that police tell regular citizens everything is fine yet cancel their major events. She questioned whether regular people should also cancel their plans based on whatever information police might have.

Mahere directly asked if security threats exist that regular citizens deserve to know about. She noted the mixed messages coming from officials who say daily business should continue as usual but then call off police-sponsored activities. Her public comments highlight growing concerns about transparency from law enforcement agencies regarding safety issues. She requested clear answers to help everyone make better decisions about upcoming events.
