Nwabuoku trial stalls as lead counsel skips court
The corruption trial for ex-Acting Accountant General Chukwunyere Anamekwe Nwabuoku got postponed at the Federal High Court in Abuja after his main lawyer, Norrison Quakers, didn't show up. EFCC hit him with nine charges over allegedly laundering and stealing 868 million naira while he was running the federal finances. Another attorney named M. Igwe stood in for Quakers and told Justice James Omotosho that the senior counsel sent a written notice saying the court date didn't work for his schedule. Prosecution lawyer Ekele Iheanacho pushed back hard, pointing out that Igwe had been handling the case before, and there was no legit reason he couldn't keep going with the proceedings. The judge sided with the defense and bumped everything...
Tinubu hails Igbo as Nigeria’s top stakeholders
Tinubu hit up the Imo Economic Stakeholders Summit in Owerri through his VP Kashim Shettima and basically said the Igbo are Nigeria's MVPs when it comes to keeping the country running. The president pointed out how they own huge chunks of real estate in Abuja and make up a massive part of Lagos, plus you can find them everywhere across the nation, doing business and getting educated. He went on about how modern economies need tech and innovation instead of just riding on natural resources, and said the federal government wants to help Imo State attract investment. The whole vibe was that Nigeria needs to give the Igbo people better tools and platforms since they're already major players in making the country work.
Gumi curses architects of Nigeria’s bloodshed
Sheikh Ahmad Gumi dropped a fiery prayer on Facebook asking Allah to expose and punish whoever's behind Nigeria's security crisis, whether they're foreign actors, local citizens, or just people sitting back doing nothing while the violence spirals. The controversial Islamic scholar specifically called for divine retribution against anyone benefiting from or even feeling good about all the bloodshed happening across the country. His post landed after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had to declare a national security emergency because bandits and terrorist groups keep hitting schools and churches. Some state governments have already shut down schools to protect kids from getting snatched, and the attacks have left a bunch of people dead...

Kanu demands Abuja transfer to file appeal
Nnamdi Kanu filed paperwork asking the Federal High Court in Abuja to move him out of Sokoto prison after getting hit with a life sentence on terrorism charges. The IPOB leader signed the motion himself, and his younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, brought it to court on his behalf. Kanu argued that being stuck in Sokoto makes it basically impossible to handle his appeal since the facility sits more than 700 kilometers from Abuja. He needs to work directly with court registries and meet with relatives and legal helpers who are all based in the capital. The detention spot is making it super hard for him to exercise his constitutional right to appeal the conviction, which he claims violates Section 36 of Nigeria's constitution.
New UNIOSUN students warned off cults and scams
UNIOSUN's top administrator, Prof Odunayo Clement Adebooye, told freshmen at the 19th matriculation ceremony in Osogbo that the school has a hard line against cultism, cheating on tests, scamming, internet crimes, and getting hooked on substances. He warned the new batch that messing with any of this stuff will wreck their academic path and their whole future. The vice chancellor pointed students toward financial help options like the Federal Government's NELFUND loan program and mentioned over 300 scholarships the university handles directly. There's also a work-study thing where broke students can get paid doing campus jobs without tanking their grades. More than 40,000 people applied for spots this cycle, but only about 12,000 made...
House torched in Taraba, fake marshals busted
Nigerian forces grabbed three guys who allegedly torched a Wurkun family's home in Karim Town, which sits in Taraba State's Karim Lamido area. The military rounded up Bitrus Ishaya and Mamman Ibrahim from Wudumpi, plus Emmanuel Adi from Step 2, right after the house got lit up. Brigade Commander Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa gave props to his crew for the quick response. The suspects tried passing themselves off as official security types, but it was all bogus. Two of them claimed they worked for the Taraba Marshals, and the third guy said he was with some vigilante group. None of them had any legit ID to back it up. Military investigators think this was a calculated move to mess with the already tense situation happening around Karim...
Burn expert warns NURTW - stop carrying fuel in vehicles
Burn specialist Dr. Olubunmi Aderibigbe from University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital told transport union members to quit hauling extra petrol in their rides after 441 people died from road fires last year. The Nigerian Burn Injuries Society member said keeping fuel jerrycans at home or stashing gas in vehicles kills way more people than it helps, and he pushed everyone to grab fire extinguishers instead of acting invincible. Aderibigbe broke down how heat plus oxygen plus fuel creates disasters, and drivers need to separate those elements before tankers flip or generators spark house fires. He told people to stop using phone flashlights near gas pumps and never scoop spilled fuel when tankers crash on highways.
IBUAM locks in 30 training planes to fuel pilot pipeline
Isaac Balami University locked down a deal with Auxano Aviation to grab 30 Jabiru J430 training planes over three years, with Aviation Minister Festus Kayamo watching the MoU get signed at the Nigeria International Airshow in Abuja. Vice Chancellor Prof. Jemitola and founder Isaac Balami both showed up to finalize things, and the delivery schedule splits into 10-aircraft drops each year, starting with two planes hitting campus this month. Auxano handles registration paperwork, airworthiness docs, spare parts, and instructor training, while the university commits to NCAA standards and proper maintenance setups. Some planes arrive fully built, but others come in pieces for students and 7star Global Airlines trainees to assemble as...
