Neural DSP amps up with huge updates, tone chasers rejoice
Neural DSP dropped massive updates for both Quad Cortex and Nano Cortex that bring next-generation capture tech plus a ton of new gear models. The Quad Cortex got 669 fresh V2 captures across 41 different devices, 29 new virtual units like the Dumbbell ODS amp, and improved processing that handles dynamic stuff like fuzz pedals way better. V2 captures run through the cloud and nail the subtle behaviors that older tech missed. Nano Cortex can play those V2 captures and picked up a tremolo effect, automatic mono summing when you use one cable, cloud backups, and offline mode for tweaking settings without internet. Both updates squashed bugs that caused audio dropouts, UI crashes, and weird MIDI behavior.
Samuriwo snags top honor, Bulawayo celebrates local legend
Brian Samuriwo picked up a Lifetime Achievement Award at the National Entrepreneurs and Business Awards in Bulawayo, and the recognition came from his business work, plus community projects through his foundation. The ZANU PF politician runs health expos that give free medical care to older people after losing his grandmother to COVID-19, and he's been coordinating checkups with healthcare workers since 2022. His pub, called Ko Samuriwo, created over 60 jobs for mostly women, and he's drilled boreholes while helping neighborhood watch groups get equipment. Youth Network Connect ran the ceremony that honored 45 different entrepreneurs across various categories, with winners like Never Ncube from UTANDE and Violet Mhute getting called...
Masowe4ED rallies thousands, faith and party lines blur
A massive crowd showed up in Glen Norah B for the kickoff of Masowe for Economic Development, which is basically a faith group backing President Mnangagwa and ZANU PF economic plans under NAMFED. Harare Province chairman Goodwills Masimirembwa told religious leaders to drop their differences and focus on national goals through something called Resolution 1. The group went ahead and did a patriotic march through the neighborhood. NAMFED leader Obey Mapuranga said they expected around 20,000 people but got 42,000 instead, which he thought showed strong unity. Masowe4ED chairman Onwell Vengesa said the affiliate plans to get members signed up for ZANU PF cards and wants to help with government development programs that tie into Vision...
Mliswa drags Mahere, says real politics lost to X theatrics
Temba Mliswa went after Fadzayi Mahere for posting about national problems on X instead of handling them in Parliament back when she had the chance. Mahere bailed on her Mt Pleasant seat after winning by over 12,000 votes, saying she refused to work with people connected to what she called a corrupt system after Sengezo Tshabangu took over CCC with government backing. Mliswa said her resignation handed the constituency to ZANU-PF, whose candidate won the next election by just 3,000 votes. He called her move weak and said she ditched voters who backed her. He argued that her criticisms of Emmerson Mnangagwa and Wicknell Chivayo come off as personal attacks rather than fact-based activism, and he thinks she traded real political work for...
Xposure Music bags millions, indie artists eye new heights
Montreal-based Xposure Music just locked down $42.5 million through a mix of debt from Andalusian Credit Partners and equity from private investors and family offices, bringing their total haul past $50 million since launching in 2021. The platform uses machine-learning tech to bankroll indie artists and buy up catalogs, claiming they've funded close to 100 artists over the past year and a half while dropping eight figures into music rights across different genres. The cash injection comes after they teamed up with Too Lost for distribution and co-funding deals. Co-CEOs Ryan Garber and Gregory Walfish said the money lets them scale up catalog acquisitions and give independent artists the same financing options that used to be reserved...
Bubi fury erupts at mine, villagers dump coffin and seize ore
A security guard at DGL5 Mine in Bubi District shot and killed 31-year-old Thabo Ngwenya, hitting him three times in the chest while he walked past the property. Another person heading to shops got hit in the arm. Villagers went absolutely feral and blocked police from taking the body, accusing authorities of sweeping previous incidents under the rug. The crowd marched the police truck back to the mine, torched tires, smashed windows, and looted gold ore from stockpiles. Protesters forced open the gate, yanked the coffin from cops, and dumped it in the guardroom before officers backed off. Zanu-PF member Lot Mbambo eventually talked everyone down after hours of chaos. Mine owner Francisco Marconitti said guards were only supposed to...
Jah Prayzah brings the house down, fans carry Ruzhowa
Jah Prayzah had a moment at Harare International Conference Centre, where the crowd basically sang his track Ruzhowa for him while he just vibed and danced. The sold-out show was part of his Ndini Mukudzeyi World Tour finale, and fans felt like they got their money's worth. The artist later admitted he never expected that particular song to blow up the way it did, even though he knew it was solid worship music when he dropped it. The track mixes traditional Zimbabwean sounds with modern Afro-fusion beats and has turned into something bigger than just another single. Jah Prayzah thanked everyone who supported him throughout his year, which included stops in South Africa, Canada, and Germany. He said more shows are coming before the year...
Maskiri makes peace after goat deal drama, friends step up
Rapper Maskiri just wrapped up a messy situation after spending two days locked up over a goat deal gone wrong. The Zimbabwean artist got arrested because he never delivered on a purchase agreement with Tonderai Chisoro, who lives in the US and ended up filing criminal charges. Maskiri finally handed over five goats to settle things and said the whole ordeal gave him time to think about his choices. The musician thanked Stunner and Olinda Chapel for reaching out while he was stuck at Chitungwiza Police Station, saying they offered to cover the $1,500 debt if needed. Mash Goats, an organization Maskiri works with, helped broker the handover in Rainham. Chisoro confirmed his representative picked up the animals and got all the paperwork...
ASG levels up its power players, Nightjar goes full throttle
London-based Atlantic Screen Group just dropped some major leadership shuffles and new deals. Rupert Hollier got bumped up to Chief Operating Officer, while Rosie Hill is taking over as President of Nightjar Music and Nightjar Songs Publishing. Hill has been with the company since 2021 and basically built their sync operation from scratch before they launched the publishing arm earlier this year. She brought experience from Warner Chappell and Concord to the table. The company also brought on Tom Paul from Decca Records to beef up the sync team. On top of that, Nightjar locked down an exclusive deal with 5DB Studios and Label, which is run by Alex Eden Smith, who used to work at Parlophone and Columbia. The partnership means 5DB...
