DelGrain brings grainy delay and wild mod tricks, sphere in tow
Rob Papen dropped DelGrain, which mashes up granular delay with tape delay plus a distortion module and filter section that all get controlled by this thing called the Disrupt Sphere. The plugin lets you route the granular processing before the delay, inside it, after it, or running in parallel, depending on what kind of chaos you want. Grain size and length both lock to tempo and there's a semitone pitch thing that goes 12 steps either direction. The filter section has high-pass and low-pass combos, bandpass mode, and a vocal vowel filter that you can stick in different spots after the delay stuff happens. Distortion hits the signal before it enters the granular delay engine, which apparently makes things more exciting. That Disrupt...
ValhallaSupermassive 5.0 gets Sirius mode, echoes go big
Valhalla DSP dropped version 5.0 of their freebie ValhallaSupermassive reverb plugin and threw in a fresh algorithm called Sirius. The new mode basically handles everything from small rooms to huge cathedral spaces and keeps things clear even when the decay goes on forever. Echo density can go from pretty sparse to absolutely packed, and the high-frequency rolloff sounds realistic depending on how you set the EQ. The update also added previous and next arrows for cycling through the different modes without clicking around like a maniac. Sirius is apparently the workhorse algorithm people have been waiting for, since it works across basically any size space you need.
Ruinator 1.1 drops new modes and AAX, UI now resizable
Blanketfort Audio just pushed Ruinator to version 1.1 and finally added AAX format for the Pro Tools crowd. The distortion plugin got two fresh modes called Lo Fuzz, which is tuned for bass and meant to rattle your walls, plus Fold, which is basically a West Coast wavefolder thing that works great on synths. There's a swap button that lets you flip parameters between the two engines without diving into menus, and you can resize the interface from the bottom right corner. The update also brings better gain compensation and lets you bypass each engine separately. If you already bought it, just grab the new version from your account page, and demos got updated for anyone wanting to test drive it. The intro price got brought back at 29...
Scaler 3.2 update adds scenes and MIDI out, workflow boosted
Scaler Music dropped version 3.2 for their Scaler plugin, and it's free if you already own Scaler 3. The big addition is Scenes on the Arrange page, which lets you bundle chords into sections like verse or chorus stuff and tweak them as a single unit. There's also User Track Recording that captures whatever Scaler spits out straight to the User Track, and External MIDI Out works with hardware synths in both plugin and standalone modes. Other updates include a search box for finding scales faster in Section B, Scale Lock that transposes chord sets instantly on the Browse page, and Note Follow slash Divisi motions for spreading chord notes across different tracks. You can also keyswitch between lanes, rename and reorder tracks, and the...
Xaoc Konin gives tight gain control, tiny module
Xaoc Devices just put out the Konin, a tiny 4HP module that basically does gain and attenuation across two channels for Eurorack nerds who need precise manual control. The thing can either crank weak signals up by 20dB or squash them down to like 1% of what they started as, and it doubles as a voltage source that goes from negative 10V to positive 10V with 10mV adjustments using just one knob. The module pulls 15mA on the positive rail and 10mA on the negative, sits 31mm deep with the cable bracket attached, and can also work as a basic dual attenuator if that's all you need. It goes for 90 euros and you can snag one right away.
Franklin MP-10 makes any mic pedalboard-friendly, no fuss
Franklin Audio dropped the MP-10, which basically lets you run any microphone through guitar pedals or amps without turning your signal into hot garbage. The box has custom circuitry that fixes the impedance mismatch between mics and guitar gear, plus it gives you 12 to 60dB of gain from the preamp. The transformer-balanced design keeps everything clean with supposedly just a 0.3dB tolerance from 20Hz to 30kHz. The whole thing runs off standard 9V pedal power and has one gain knob on top. Around back, you get XLR for mic input and a passthrough, plus a quarter-inch output for your pedals. The passthrough is clutch because you can still send a clean copy to your mixer or backup recorder. It costs 249 quid and you can grab one right away.
Proteas humiliate India at home, history made in style
South Africa absolutely demolished India by 408 runs in Guwahati to wrap up a 2-0 series clean sweep, marking their first Test series win on Indian soil in 25 years. Off-spinner Simon Harmer ripped through the batting lineup with figures of 6-37 as India got rolled for just 140 while chasing an impossible 549. Marco Jansen grabbed Player of the Match honors after taking 6-48 in the first innings and smashing 93 runs, then sealed the deal with a ridiculous one-handed catch. This loss is literally the worst home defeat by runs in Indian cricket history and their fifth loss in seven home Tests. Captain Rishabh Pant admitted the batting unit failed to capitalize when it mattered. The series collapse raises major red flags about their...
Judge in bribery storm, courtroom secrets unravel
A Gauteng High Court judge got busted by the Hawks for allegedly taking bribes to fix a church leadership case. Portia Phahlane, age 57, was arrested at her home alongside her son and two other people connected to the International Pentecost Holiness Church succession drama. Prosecutors claim she pocketed over 2 million rand from one faction trying to control the mega-rich congregation after the bishop died back in 2016. The money trail apparently helped her buy some upscale real estate. She made bail, but civil society watchdogs are demanding that she be suspended immediately. Judges Matter says the allegations are wild enough that keeping her on the bench wrecks public confidence in the whole judicial system. The case got pushed to...
Fezile Dabi celebrates new fleet, DA hails smart service move
The DA is hyped about Fezile Dabi District Municipality dropping cash on fresh wheels after their old fleet was basically garage decorations at this point. The council grabbed five new rides, a mix of bakkies and sedans, to help different departments actually do their jobs across the massive district in Free State. Councillor Stone Makhema said this was smart planning since the previous vehicles were bleeding money on repairs and constantly breaking down. The district covers a ridiculous amount of land with nearly half a million people scattered between urban centers and remote farming areas, which makes reliable transport essential for service delivery. Back in September, they already added three branded bakkies, bringing the total...
