Kenya's Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority closed 10 fuel stations after discovering sales of adulterated or export-designated petroleum between July and September 2025. The regulator tested 6,090 samples across 1,315 locations and found 1,303 sites met standards. Violations ranged from high-sulfur diesel to fuel mixed with kerosene or meant for foreign markets. Two stations had previous infractions.
The shuttered facilities operate in Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Kisumu, Machakos, Makueni, Bungoma, Vihiga, Nyandarua, Kwale, Kilifi, Meru, and Mombasa counties.
